What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme for people living with a disability. It provides funding to eligible Australians with a permanent and significant disability. This funding helps individuals access support to achieve their goals, including help with everyday activities and participating in social and community events.
Who’s eligible for NDIS funding?
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must:
be under 65 years of age
Live in Australia
Are an Australian citizen or have a permanent or special category visa
Need professional support due to a permanent or significant disability
Are the NDIS and the disability support pension linked?
No. The NDIS is separate from other income supports, such as the Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment, and the Child Disability Assistance Payment.
If you’re receiving the Disability Support Pension, you aren’t automatically eligible for NDIS funding or support.
However, if you qualify for the NDIS, these payments won’t be affected (excluding the Mobility Allowance from Centrelink).

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding that helps participants with daily tasks and supervision to live as independently as possible, often in shared or individual homes. Support can include personal care, meal preparation, cleaning, medication management, and more.
SIL is designed for NDIS participants who have higher support needs requiring help throughout the day and night. Eligibility is determined during your NDIS planning meeting based on your goals and support needs.
Supports may include:
• Personal care (e.g., showering, dressing)
• Meal preparation and cooking
• Cleaning and household tasks
• Medication management
• Behaviour support
• Developing social and daily living skills
• Supervision for safety
• Community participation assistance
SIL funding does not cover:
• Daily living costs like rent, groceries, or utilities
• Supports unrelated to your disability
• Services funded by other systems (e.g., hospitals)
SIL funding is included under your Core Supports budget and based on a Roster of Care that reflects your assessed support needs.
Steps to access SIL:
1. Discuss your goals with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC)
2. Choose your preferred SIL provider
3. Develop a Roster of Care with the provider
4. Submit your documents for NDIS approval
5. Transition into your new home and begin support
Yes, you have the right to choose the SIL provider that best meets your needs and preferences. We encourage you to select a provider who supports your goals.
If your needs change, inform your support coordinator or NDIS planner to review and adjust your SIL supports accordingly.
A Service Agreement is a written contract between you and your SIL provider that outlines the supports to be provided, service times, and costs. It ensures transparency and sets clear expectations.
It depends on your readiness, available vacancies, and NDIS approval timelines. We aim to make the transition as smooth as possible, typically within a few weeks once everything is confirmed.
It includes:
Initial enquiry and consultation
Meeting and getting to know you
Reviewing your NDIS plan and goals
Matching Housemates and House Tours
Developing a Roster of Care and submitting to NDIA
Signing a Service Agreement and planning the move-in
