Peter has always been a hands-on, hardworking individual, the kind of person who builds his own house at just 21 years old—a feat that speaks volumes about his determination and drive. With a strong work ethic, he carved out a successful career as an AutoCAD engineer, attracted a wonderful partner, and built a loving family. His life was a testament to perseverance and achievement.
However, life took an unexpected turn when Peter was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), leading to significant challenges and a new chapter in his life. Despite this, Peter’s spirit remained unbroken. With the unwavering support of his devoted partner and an incredibly committed team of support workers, Peter embarked on a new journey—one of resilience, adaptation, and hope.
Since joining our Supported Independent Living (SIL) home, Peter has found a renewed sense of purpose. His team of support workers, who are deeply invested in his well-being, have made a promise: to walk alongside Peter every step of the way on his path towards independence. This journey recently led Peter to reconnect with an old passion—woodworking. With the encouragement and assistance of his support team, he has started visiting a workshop for the disabled, where he rediscovers the joy of crafting with his own hands.
Peter is also so much more settled in the house. We are now waiting on a response from Heathmont Golf Park, where he can hopefully practise golf at the driving range.
We are immensely grateful to the NDIS for enabling us to support Peter in this transformative journey. It’s a privilege to work alongside Peter and his loving partner as he pursues his goals with determination and courage. Peter’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the incredible impact that compassionate, dedicated support can have on someone’s life.
Together, we continue to walk this journey with Peter, celebrating every step towards his independence and cherishing the moments of joy along the way.
